How to Easily Transfer a Printed Image to Fabric (Without Transfer Paper)

Updated: Aug 15

No transfer paper? No problem. Here's how to easily transfer a laser printed photo image onto fabric. This DIY denim jacket is in honor of Kobe Bryant, Gigi Bryant, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and Ara Zobayan. 🙏🏾

Step 1: Prep Shirt

Place your piece of craft wood inside the shirt to prevent any gloss gel from leaking through.

Step 2: Apply Gloss Gel to Photo

Use the sponge brush to apply a thick layer of gloss gel medium onto the printed image. Make sure to apply strokes in the same direction for consistency and make sure the layer is nice and even.

Step 3: Place Image Onto Shirt

Once the gloss gel is applied, press the photo face down onto the shirt. Smooth it out and apply pressure to make sure there are no air bubbles. Leave to dry for 5-6 hours.

Step 4: Peel Paper Off

Once everything is dry, take a wet cloth and completely saturate the image. Then use your fingers to peel the paper away to reveal the transferred image on the t-shirt. Use a wet cloth to wipe away the remaining pieces of paper, then dry the image off with a dry cloth.

Step 5: Add Gloss Gel Layer

Add another even layer of gloss gel medium on top of the image and allow to dry for a couple more hours.

Step 6: Finish or Cut Out

If you plan to leave the image on the t-shirt as is, then you're all done! Your DIY graphic tee is complete. If you'd like to add the image to another piece such as a denim jacket like the one I'm using, simply cut the image out and fabric glue it onto the garment.

All done!

After adding a few more accessories and finishing touches, my jacket was complete with my transferred fabric image! I hope this tutorial is helpful for you and thanks for checking it out. :) Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/miairajennings/
